- Broken down pieces of rock get into rivers and streams because of weathering, they then get transported down river until they either get put into the ocean or they settle on the river bed. This is called deposition.
- This then compacts due to the wait of its-self. During this process it pushes all the water out, once this process has happened a lot of times it becomes rock. This is called cementation.
- The sediment can be pushed back onto land where animals or animal remains can leave imprints in the rocks, these later become fossils
