  • You're right! These differences are the result of the composition of the cell wall. Some bacteria have peptidoglycan. These cells are called "gram positive?" bacterial cells.

  • They get their color from a stain, whether violet and iodine, or methylene blue. Others, that do not contain peptidoglycan, are not stained and are referred to as gram-negative, and appear red.
