- Turongo was the son of Tawhao, he has an older brother called Whatihua
- Turongo
- Whatihua
- Whatihua always gave his younger brother Turongo a hard time because as a young man Turongo left home and travelled south from Kawhia to Patea.
- They wanted to marry but first Turongo had to return to Kawhia and build a home in preparation for Rua-pu-tahanga's arrival.
- When Turongo got to Patea he met and fell in love with a beautiful woman named Rua-pu-tahanga.
- Whatihua got jealous of Rua-pu-tahanga's beauty. He wanted to take her from Turongo.
- While Turongo was busy building his new home. Whatihua paid him a visit. He looked over the house and told his brother that his house was to big and he should make its smaller.
- Meanwhile Whatihua was building his own house a much bigger one.
- Since Turongo trusted his brothers advice he made his house smaller.
- When Whatihua completed his house he secretly sent a messenger to tell Rua-pu-tahanga and her whanau to come to Kawhia. Turongo was surprised when Rua-pu-tahanga arrived and he hadn't finished his house.
- As a knight in shining armour, Whatihua came to the rescue and made his home available to Rua-pu-tahanga and her whanau. Without hesitation they accepted his invitation.
- Turongo's house was to small to fit Rua-pu-Tahanga and her whanau. As well as he had no food to give them.
- Whatihua spoke to Rua-pu-tahanga about his younger brother. He said ' the husband you are after is useless. With that Rua-pu-tahanga took Whatihua as her husband leaving Turongo consoling in his pride.

- This was to much for Turongo so he once again left Kawhia but this time he headed to Hawke's Bay,
