- Della and Jim lived in an Apartment. They knew it was Christmas Eve, and they really wanted to buy really nice gifts for each other this year.
- Climax
- Della had to buy a Christmas present before tomorrow with $1.87 cents for her husband Mr. James Dillingham Young. Also known as Jim.
- Falling Action
- Della sat down and thought " What can I do to get money to buy a gift for Jim." So Della went to the hair salon to cut some of her hair off.
- Resolution
- Della and Jim gave each other their gifts. JIm got Della some combs for her hair. Della got Jim a silver chain for his watch. Jim said " I gave sold my watch for your combs."
- Jim said "Let's put our gifts aside." They were finding out what the true meaning of Christmas was all about.
- Jim and Della still love one another, and made a bad mistake buy buying gifts that they both couldn't use.
