- Slide: 1
- 565 CE: Frankish Courts: Brunhilda, a Visigothic princess, marries King Sigebert I of Austrasia. Meanwhile, her sister Galswintha marries Sigebert’s brother Chilperic of Neustria—only to be murdered, allegedly at the instigation of Chilperic’s former mistress Fredegund, who becomes queen.
- Sigebert: There will be justice. Chilperic’s ambition cannot go unchecked.
- Brunhilda: My sister was promised honor. She found death.
- Slide: 2
- 575 CE: Siege Camp Outside Vitry: As Sigebert is being declared king of all the Franks by Austrasian nobles after military success against Chilperic, he is assassinated—likely at Fredegund’s command.
- Courtier (in panic): The king is dead—stabbed by one of his own men!
- Brunhilda (calm but shaken): Then I will act in his place, for our son.
- Slide: 3
- 580s–590s CE – The courts of Austrasia and Neustria: Brunhilda rules as regent for her son Childebert II and later grandsons. Fredegund serves as regent for her son Clotaire II. Both women orchestrate alliances, marriages, and political assassinations to protect their lines.
- Brunhilda (to her court): We do not rule through bloodshed, but we will not hesitate if forced.
- Fredegund (to her advisors): The child’s crown is meaningless without power behind it. That power is mine.
