As the boys were going wild, preparing to hunt the beast, Simon had just found the boys to tell them that there was no beast.
Simon realizes that the "beast" is actually the pilot in a parachute. He has to go find the others and let them know, but he is so delirious

Ralph and Piggy decide to go to the dinner Jack invited them to. Jack challenges Ralph and says that he can protect the tribe and provide food. . .
I'm chief! I'm in charge!
Forget the conch!
I should be leader. I can protect. I can provide food for everyone
He suggests that they join. Ralph protests, fighting for his power
As the boys continue to argue, a storm breaks out causing them to get wound up. They begin to chant and shout.
KILL THE BEAST!!!
The Boys didn't recognize him and thought that he was the beast, or maybe they did recognize him. But either way, in their frinzy the boys beat Simon to death
While beating Simon, the man in the parachute drifted and scared the boys away, and Simone's dead body was washed away into the sea
In the end, the lord of the flies was right. The boys wanted to have fun, and Simone got in their way.
