- Kit is loyal to her family, despite the differences between her upbringing in Barbados and the Puritan lifestyle in Wethersfield. In The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Kit demonstrates her loyalty when she tries to give her cousins, Judith and Mercy, beautiful dresses she brought from Barbados. She says, “I want them to have them”, showing that her intentions are out of kindness and generosity. Kit's actions reflect her desire to share something special with her family, even though her uncle, Matthew, disapproves of the gifts because of their extravagant nature. This moment shows that Kit values her family and wants to make them joyful, even if she struggles with the rules of their strict Puritan society.
