We need to be our own Mexican State. I don't like sharing!
More Money for schools, Better defense from the American Indian raids...
We need to ban the law against US immigration! We need our US immigrants!
We take a strong statehood in Texas. We hope Mexico welcomes are ideas.
HOW COULD YOU?
Conventions of 1833
What about the Good of the people? Your country?
Well, it was quite easy. I just wanted power. Dictator means the power is mine! Goodbye Mexican Constitution!
We must take a stand! Austin is right!!!
War? You have always told us to be peaceful, but I agree!
"War is our only resource. There is no other remedy. We must defend our rights, ourselves, and our country by force of arms. "
Conventions of 1833
The Fredonian Rebellion
The Convention of 1832 failed, so after Santa Anna became president, everybody called for another convention. The federalists now held the power because Santa Anna was on their side. The delegates came together and formed some resolutions.
This makes me upset.
You guys need to prove the land is yours with a title or I will take it and sell it to new American settlers.
I am going to send some complaints to the Tejano Government.
Stephen F. Austin won't approve. I will send a letter right away.
I am the Empresario. I am powerful and you all need to respect me.
That guy is too full of it. Ugg.
The Convention sent Stephen F. Austin to deliver the resolutions to Mexico. Along the way, he was arrested for treason. While he was in prison, Santa Anna switched sides to make himself more powerful.
The Fredonian Rebellion
3. 13, sir.
4. Good. More will join.
1. I don't care about Mexico. I declare Texas independent! I am going to overthrow the Mexican Government. Join me people, join me!
I call this, "The Republic of Fredonia!"
Stephen F. Austin was released from prison. When he returned, he realized that there were no more options besides war. His message to his fellow Texans was "loud and clear."
Haden, this is a bad idea. I will fight. This is a rebel. Surrender!
The Fredonian Rebellion
Haden Edwards, an empresario, went to Nacogdoches in 1826. He was longing for power and respect, so he went where it was already settled by many different populations. He put up a sign saying, "I am the Empresario.” “I am powerful and you all need to respect me."
The government was contacted, and then they told Haden to cool it down, but he didn't listen. Reports of his bad behavior continued to come, so the government sent the military to take over Nacogdoches. Haden came up with a plan.
2. How many are there with you?
Meanwhile, Stephen F. Austin thought this rebel was a bad idea, so he decided to fight against it. Also, Haden decided to call his little rebel, "The Republic of Fredonia." It was short-lived, but it started everything! Mexico got suspicious of American immigration. This led to the Mier Y Teran Report.
What effect do the Anglos have on this place? We need to investigate!
