I'm Aaron Williamson. When I became deaf doctors saw it as a loss. I wanted to flip the script and add a new perspective to what doctors called hearing loss. I coined the term in the 1990's to challenge what it means to be deaf, I called it Deaf Gain!

Were H-Dirksen L. Bauman and Joseph J. Murray. We expanded on the term Deaf Gain. Were scholars who wrote a book on the topic Deaf Gain after doing different studies on neuroscience, architecture, and history. Our book is called "Deaf Gain: Raising the Stakes for Human Diversity."

Deaf Gain has further advanced research in technology, education, sensory research and so much more!
Deaf Gain is present in architecture, like creating wider walkways to talk. This is a gain for both deaf and hearing individuals.
More research has been done on deaf animals. They are just as much a gain to the family as hearing animals, they require different teaching methods that are simple and help them thrive!
