Hi, I'm Carl! I'm about to pray in the mosque in the background. I currently live in the city of Baghdad.
Hi, I am Adrian! I'm also about to go to pray. I also live in Baghdad.
Geography and Navigation
I'm on my way to mosque, but am not sure where to go.
Have you tried using this? It's called a compass. Not sure what it does but I think it's what you need. It's 7:56am, only a couple minutes before the prayers begin. also, here's an astrolabe.
Medicine
I'm taking Carl to the Hospital, he's really sick and needs to be treated.
Oh I'm so sick! *cough* *cough*
The city of Baghdad is a city that wasn't always the capital of Islamic lands. It would become the capital after the Abbasid dynasty, which lasted from 758 to 1258. Baghdad would become a very large city, it is a very gorgeous as well. It was also the crossroads for a lot of trade routes. The mosque is very important to Muslims, which are people who practice the religion of Islam. The mosque has at least one tower, called a minaret. In the Minaret, the muezzin chants, calling people to prayer. There's a fountain in the court yard to wash hands before praying. Inside is the room where worshippers sit on mats and carpets on the floor before praying. There were many designs to mosques, which would reflect the diversity of the Islamic culture.
Art and Music
The Muslims in the middle ages are likely to have learned about the compass from the Chinese. The compass is a device that tells you which way you are currently going. The astrolabe was likely to be invented by Greeks. Many Muslim sailors could use the astrolabe to tell the time and pinpoint their exact location. The astrolabe was based on the position of suns and stars.
Mathematics
Solve the Equation:7x+8y=37
Muslims used a ton of different treatments to cure many diseases and help people that are injured. Some common practices Muslims took to cure patients from ailments were diets, exercise, and drugs. Hospitals were also used to teach medical students.
Science and Technology
I can: correctly identify animals.
Learning about animals is fun. I've learned about snakes and other reptiles.
Muslims created art of many forms. The Muslim arts are called arabesque. Muslims in the Islamic lands would use parts of plants to create beautiful designs and patterns. Muslims living in the Islamic age also made complex patterns out of basic shapes. Muslims also were amazing at art called calligraphy, or the art of amazing handwriting.  Musicians and poets would often work together to make music in Spain during the Islamic age.
This art! It's so beautiful, so gorgeous!
You are right there Carl! This music is peaceful as well.
Mathematics, or it's called math maybe, or maybe it is called arithmetic. This basic school subject would become very complex after involving variables as the solutions to problems. Algebra is the form of math using variables. It was founded by Muslim astronomer and mathematician Al-Khwarizmi. Another common concept that was found during the Islamic age is the number 0. This numerical value came from an Arabic word meaning empty space. Muslims also use the same numbers Americans use today. In fact, we take our numbers from Muslims.
This algebra is so simple! I could do it in my sleep.
This Algebra is very difficult!
Muslims also made a great advancement in terms of science and technology. People in Islamic lands during the middle ages also showed great interest in Zoology, or the study of different animals. They used animals to create different medicines. They, the Muslims also wrote books describing the structures of animals' bodies. Another science was astronomy, or the study of things in the universe. Some things in the universe would include planets and stars.
I've learned about the sun and the planets!
