English Short Story 'Liberty'

I grew up in a pretty much happy family. The only thing my parents wanted our small family of six to do, was move to America, away from the DR. I had everything I wanted, until one day, something came a long that I didn't know I even know I wanted.
A dog! Unlike Mami, I loved her! We named her Liberty.
Why?!? Take her back. I have enough to take care of right now.
Our visas have come!
I love her!!
It's a thank you gift from Mister Victor. There's no way we can give it back!
Then one day, Liberty got into Mami's flowers. Mami was not happy. Despite all of Mami's ADMONITIONS, Liberty was always a happy dog.
Liberty! I want you gone!
All liberty involves sacrifice!
After I see two strange men in my backyard, hiding behind a hedge, Mister Victor practically moves in. It is then not safe to talk about certain things in the house anymore.
What are you doing here?!? Leave my dog alone!
You cannot tell anyone that you have seen or heard us!
Finally, our visas come. I feel like I should be excited, but Mami has a fake smile. Everyone comes to say their goodbyes.
Eventually, we leave. I am not able to take Liberty with me. I tried to convince Mami to let me, but it was no use. My aunt tried to console me, but I was INCONSOLABLE. She assured me that I would find liberty in the United States.
I hope my Liberty is here waiting for me when I get back.
