- A number of different ethnic groups resided in Hungary. They included the croats,slovenes,slovaks and Magyars.
- Hungray was under the rule of the Austrian empire and the current ruler was Francis I.
- In 1848 Louis Kossuth an orator ,journalist and lawyer emerged from among the ranks of the magyar nobility to lead a revolution to a achieve certain goals.
- The magyars were the dominant ones. For many years they have been the ruling classes and their noblitlies had enjoyed the greatest privileges.
- Some privileges were being exempted from paying taxes
- Despite those privileges they still had to answer to a higher power,Austria and this the resented.
