- mary comes home to john and elizabeth. she explains that she is now an official of the court
- mary gives Elizabeth the poppet that she made in court that day. she then goes upstairs
- rev hale comes over unexpectedly. he says he need to question them to get a feel for the people in the town
- giles and nurse show up to the proctors. they say that both of their wives have been accused and taken to court for crimes they didnt commit
- cheever and cheever come to investigate elizabeth. abigain has had a needel stuck in her and they believe elizabeth did it with the poppet
- John asks nurse and Giles to leave so that he can have time to be alone and think by himself
