- No, I promise. I'm not trying to mess with you. That is an assignment I have to do.
- What is this letter?It talks about my sister. Are you trying to mess with me? This is not nice. I'm taking this home.
- Dear Evan Hansen
- Oh no. This is bad. Conner is going to show the whole school my letter, and they are going to make fun of me.
- Man vs. Man - Evan printed out a letter to himself that was an assignment from his therapist but Conner thinks he printed it out to mess with him.

- I don't want to tell them that the only letter they have from their son was actually written by me.
- No he didn't, I wrote it for my therapy assignment and he stole it from me.
- OK thank you.
- Conner wrote this letter for you before he died.

- Man vs. Self - Evan wants to tell them that the letter isn't from Conner, but he doesn't want to let them down because the letter is the only thing they have left of their son.

- As the story goes on Evan Is just trying to ignore his problem. He knows that lying to the Murphy's about being friends with Conner is wrong but he doesn't want to let them down\. Through this we can see that Evan isn't very self confident and he has trouble correcting people or saying something that might upset them. By Ignoring the problem it also allows him to pretend like he had a friend. This is helping Evan because It makes him feel like he is less alone. Through this we can see that the theme is probably about facing your problems instead of ignoring them.
