Emma Shipley Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a book about a girl named Mattie and what she went through during yellow fever. My favorite scene from Fever 1793 was when Mother came back. The first frost came and Mattie knew the fever was over. Mattie and Eliza reopened and business was doing well. Nathaniel ran into the coffee house saying the president was back in town. Mattie, Nathaniel, and the customers ran out to see Washington. Everyone was cheering for him and they were excited to see him. After Washington went by, more people in carriages went by. Mother was in one of the carriages. When Mother had made it back to town, She got out of the wagon. Mattie walked past and she did not recognize Mother. Mother looked old and frail. This scene is important because it shows that the fever is really gone and people are coming back, Including Mother. They can now all live together and rebuild their life.
