  • "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears..."
  • Before Act IV, in Act III, Antony addressed the citizens of Rome by speaking after Brutus while at the funeral for Caesar. This led to Antony gaining the trust and support of the citizens and leading Brutus, Cassius, and the other conspirators to flee Rome and hid out on the edges of the city
  • Octavius, Antony, and Lepidus, the members of the new triumberant, are conversing on their plans for Rome and the conspirators. They make a list of the people they must kill like Brutus and Cassius after they murder Caesar at the Capitol.(Left to right, Antony, Octavius, Lepidus)
  • As the second triumberant figures out a plan of attack, Brutus and Cassius leave the public eye of their soldiers to discuss and argue over the events of the recent past, present, and future of their conspiracy. They argue over funding, letting Antony speak, and plans of attack.
  • As Brutus and Cassius are discussing and arguing, Brutus learns that Portia, his wife, has killed herself among all of the chaos. She swallowed two burning embers that slowly and painfully killed her, she did this because of all the senators and politically powerful people who were being killed by Antony and Octavius.
  • While sleeping, Brutus is awakened by the ghost of Casaer who says that Brutus will see him again at Philipi. This foreshadows events that Brutus will most likely die some way when they meet Antony and his forces and Battle at Philippi. This frightens Brutus and he calls two guards to sleep in his tent in case someone were to come and hurt him.
  • As Act IV comes to a close, we understand that in ancient tradition, that the opponents meet before a battle in the middle of the battleground and greeted each other before attack each other. Brutus meets with Antony and Octavius.
