Romanticism was a reaction to the Enlightenment movement. It surges during a social crisis taking place in Europe.

No! Nothing compares to romantic writing!
I'm tired of romanticism! I want to try new ways of writing!
Authors like Lord Byron, Johann Wolfgang, and Victor Hugo found an “escape” from reality by writing books that made a lot of emphasis on those things that were beautiful and ideal. Some philosophers disagreed about the principles of romanticism.
Falling Action

Resolution
I have an idea!
Some philosophers were tired of romanticism, as people were looking for ways to be more direct or crude when writing literature. Romanticism was stopping them from doing so.
Those who followed the romantic movement failed to carry the movement on and times were rapidly changing; society was looking forward to a new style of writing
The Romantic movement fades out and is “replaced” by realism, which surges in the second half of the XIX century, in France.
