- Mr Gilmer: "Scared of arrest, scared you'd have to face up to what you did?"
- Tom: "No suh, scared I'd hafta face up to what I didn't do.”
- Jem: "The ordinary kind like us," "the kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods," "the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the colored people"
- Scout:"Naw, Jem, I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks."
- Atticus“If I didn’t try everything I could to make sure Tom gets justice. I couldn’t hold up my head in town, I couldn’t represent this country in the legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again.”
- Tom Robinson: All I was tryna do was help out a girl cause I didn't see any of them other kids around. I just felt so bad for her, Its just so unfair all the signs point to Mr. Ewell but cause I'm an African American I'm getting blamed.
- Atticus: “Do you remember Tom Robinson beating you about the face?”
- Mayella:"No, I don't recollect if he hit me. I mean yes I do, he hit me."
- Scout: As the trial goes on I am beginning to learn more about the world around me. And about how unfair people of color are treated, I think that everyone should be treated equally no matter what the color of their skin is. It bothers me that Jem thinks that I am too young to understand what's happening during the trial, because I do understand it.
- Mr. Ewell: "I'm real sorry they picked you to defend that person that raped my Mayella. I don't know why I didn't kill him myself instead of goin' to the sheriff. That would have saved you and the sheriff and the taxpayers lots of trouble."
- Atticus: I agreed to do this trial right now because I believe that Tom Robinson needs justice. And since I agreed to do this trial I am not going to leave until the whole truth is spoken. I know that everyone is against me during this, but I just want Tom to have a fair trial.
- Judge Taylor: "I have decided to put Atticus on this case"
- Mayella Ewell : I know that what I am doing is wrong and the more I think about it the more I want to tell everyone that my father was the one who beat me up not Tom Robinson. But I just know that my father will beat me more If I ever told anyone.
- Bob Ewell : I cant believe that Atticus is representing an African American. Why is he not believing Mayella over Tom. I should have said a different guy raped Mayella because this guy can't even use his left hand. I should have never came to the police about this.
- Judge Taylor: I have chose to put Atticus on this case because I think he is the only lawyer who will give Tom the fair trial he deserves. I honestly do hope that Tom gets justice .
