- Slide: 1
- Then it hit me. The video! Was I on it? Had anyone seen me on it? That must have been why everyone was staring at me like I had four heads.
- “I know this sounds weird, but I kind of feel like you are the only person I can talk to about this right now.”
- She was right. I'd been all worked up about whether or not I was on the video. Rashad was in the video and he was in the hospital. Paul was in the video too.
- I am Quinn Collins, a basketball player with a 3.5 GPA, trying to make it through high school with my head down.

- Luckily, I’m just not the stealing type. But I know a lot of people who are, and there was no better playground for a thief than Jerry’s.
- “No, you don’t understand,” I pleaded, unsure of what was happening. “I have money right here!” With my free hand, I reached into my pocket to grab the dollar I had designated to pay for those stupid chips.

- I am Rashad Butler, a young man who likes to party but got beaten for something I didn't do.

- “No one’s going to get suspicious,” I told them. “We’ve scored beer here more times than I can count.”
- The blood kept coming. I wanted to move; my gut wanted me to rush to help Paul. But I knew enough to know that you stayed out of police business, plus Paul didn’t need my help because he was pummeling the guy.
- I took a quick swig of bourbon and stuffed the flask in my ass pocket, so they’d know I had it. So they’d know I wanted to get the party started too, but I’d had shit to do.
- I am Quinn Collins, a kid who's supposed to have it all together-but I steal, I lie, and I duck into alleyways to avoid facing the truth.
