- The time period of 1789-1799, which was a movement that eventually ended the Ancien Regime.
- The Tennis Court Oath
- A few factors that eventually led to the Revolution included food shortage, weak leadership, serious economic problems, new ideas about government, and growing resentment among lower classes.
- The Storming of the Bastille
- Louis (a weak leader) was forced to hold a meeting of the Estates-General, which was an assembly of representatives from all 3 estates, to approve the new tax he wanted to create. The clergy and nobles expected to win, but the Third Estate wanted to make some changes.
- The Great Fear
- Three days after, the National Assembly was locked out of their meeting room so they decided to break down a door to a tennis court, staying until they had drawn up a new constitution.
- Rumors went around in Paris saying that Louis was going to bring in foreign troops to massacre French citizens to dismiss the Ntional Assembly. July 14th, 1789 a mob stormed the Bastille searching for gunpowder and arms. They seized control of the building and killed the commander and several guards. The Fall of the Bastille became a great symbolic aact of revolution. for the French people.
- Peasants became outlaws due to the wave of a senseless panic through France. They were armed and broke into nobles' manors to destroy documents that bound them to pay feudal dues. Sometimes even would burn the houses altogether.
