  • Who was Toussaint L'Ouverture? Toussaint was simply a man who learned that he was more than just a slave, he was a man worthy of human dignity and treatment.
  • After becoming the leader of the slave revolt, Toussaint successfully fought the French, as well as invading the Spanish and British.
  • As time passed, Toussaint proved himself to be a brilliant general, winning 7 battles in 7 days. He became a de facto governor of the colony.
  • In 1803 Napoleon and Toussaint agreed to terms of peace. A few months later, the French had invited Toussaint to come to a negotiation meeting with full safe conduct.
