The first Battles
During the French and Indian War, England went and supported the colonists which left them broke. The English wanted their money back so they started taxing the colonists.
Declaring Independence
A continental army was set up with George Washington in command. British soldiers were sent to capture the militias weapons, they also marched to Concord to capture colonial leaders.
The 3 groups
When the continental army met with the British soldiers the first two battles of the American revolution happened. This also refers to "Shots heard around the world"

In the second continental congress in May 1775, the colonists voted to declare independence on England. Although not all the colonists wanted to be independent from England.
There were three groups of people. Loyalists who were loyal to England, patriots who were fighting for freedom, and a neutral group who refused to pick a side. The french also became an ally.
In 1783, Britain recognized the independence of the United States of America. This was called the Treaty of Paris. A new constitution was created in 1787.
