- What is Human Trafficking?
- Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or persuasion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked in countries around the world, including the United States.
- The US Department of Labor found 139 goods from 75 countries produced by child labor alone.
- The Human Trafficking and forced labor industry is worth 150 billion worldwide.
- 75% of victims are women and female children.
- The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of Human Trafficking Globally.
- More Than 50 Percent Of Trafficking Victims Are Sexually Exploited
- The United States government does a lot regarding prosecution, victims, and awareness. For example the Department of Homeland Security conducts domestic and international investigations of human trafficking, conducts public awareness campaigns through the Blue Campaign, provides education and training, grants immigration benefits to victims of human trafficking, and authorizes victims who are potential witnesses to remain in the United States temporarily during the investigation or prosecution of their traffickers.
