For as long as humans have existed, we have used images and text to tell stories!
Graphic novels have not always been taken seriously, but works like New Kid have helped push the genre to new heights.
Today, we have graphic novels! These texts use words and images to tell stories for children, teens, and adults.
New Kid follows Jordan, a young Black boy who is one of only a few students of color at his new, private school.
New Kid also shows the joy and beauty in Jordan's experience, his close friendships and family through the visual medium.
In New Kid, the author is able to show colorism and micro-agressions in a way plain text would be unable to.
