The atom is the smallest unit in the world so it cant be broken down any more, which means its a solid!
John DaltonDalton atomic theory
I agree with Democritus, atoms are indestructible, and every element is made of atoms.
They've got it all wrong! You can break an atom down. They have positive and negative charges! It sorta looks like a chocolate chip cookie!

Electrons- negative charge Protons- postitive charge attracted to charged oil
Robert Milikan oil drip experiment
Ok, I think J.J is on to something... Let me test with this oil. Aha! I have proved that electrons have a charge because of this charged oil!
Robert is correct, there are charges, but after I placed this foil down I have discovered that most of the matter comes from the center...I will call it the nucleus

A lot of empty space in atom
Niels BohrBohr Model
We are all getting the same idea, except I believe that that electrons are orbiting around the nuecleus.
All these mean are somewhat correct with their theory, besides Democritus and Dalton, but the particles on the outside of the nucleus are actually like waves.
