  • In majority of The Glass Castle, the Walls stay together as a family in an old house and crowded, located in the city of Welch, West Virginia. Their parents, Rex and Rose Mary Walls, preferred to live in a nomadic style, resulting in the family moving to numerous destinations, such as: Blythe, Battle mountain, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, then New York city
  • The climax point is when the kids began saving up money for Lori to go to New York and begin her new life. However, going back to the main conflict, Rex, who spends it all and demotivates Lori into saving up again. However, Jeannette works hard enough, with the help of Bryan to help Lori, again. Lori soon moves to New York, gets a part time job, and later asks Jeannette to come stay with her. Soon Bryan and Maureen will follow her to Lori. Suddenly, after a couple of years Rex and Rose Mary also come to New York. However, they end up homeless and refuse the help of their children
  • This dysfunctional family features six individuals with completely different personalities and outlooks on life. (From right to left) First, in the spotlight, we have Jeannette Walls, the Protagonist with an eager and adventurous attitude. Then, we have Bryan Walls, the only boy of the children, who normally follows Jeannette's crazy adventures. Next, we have Lori Walls, the artistic, and intelligent older sister that all the children look up to. Then there's Maureen Walls, the baby of the family that normally excludes her self from family activities, and usually joins other families. Next, we Have Rose Mary Walls, the completely art crazed mother who fails to properly raise her children. She really wants to dedicate her entire life to art. Finally, we have Rex Walls, the drunken father that weirdly never gave up on his kids and kept going to fulfill his life's purpose of building the glass castle

  • Rex Walls is seen as one of the primary conflicts in the book. His heavy addiction to alcohol causes him to lie, cheat, and steal from others to get it, sometimes from his own children. His heavy alcohol addiction affects the family emotionally, physically, and mentally. What he doesn't realize is that with the great amount of money he uses for alcohol, he could use it for food and shelter. Also, Rex wall is portrayed as an aggressive character, which ultimately influences his kids to be aggressive.
  • How dare you, my birthday wish was for you to stop drinking
  • Not now, mountain goat
  • We'll be with you soon, Lori
  • The theme of the book can be described as forgiveness and unconditional love. The author is trying to demonstrate that even though's been through a rough childhood with bad parents; she still forgives them and never points finger, holds grudges, or blames them for anything and loves them unconditionally. Instead, the author would try to improve herself so she doesn't end up like her parents.
