Storyboard Text

  • Anagnorisis
  • The baby I took had it's ankles pierced together and the child's parents were Laius and Jocasta
  • Ahah!! It is true!! I murdered my father and slept with my mother. My own daughters are too my sisters!
  • Catharsis
  • Oh no!! Jocasta has hung herself!!
  • Hamartia
  • The man who killed Laius is YOU.
  • You are WRONG!!
  • The servant comes to Oedipus and tells him the story of the child he took from Laius and Oedipus then realizes that HE is that child and the oracle comes true.
  • Hubris
  • This is blasphemy!! How DARE you speak about me this way! Maybe it was YOU who did it, and now you're covering it up!
  • The audience experiences pity and fear when they learn that Jocasta killed herself by hanging herself by their bed
  • Dramatic Irony
  • I shall speak as one who is a stranger to the story, a stranger to the crime.
  • Oedipus' flaw is that he is in denial. He has multiple people, including a prophet who is all knowing tell him who he TRULY is, yet he denies it and must hear it from those who were there when the event occured.
  • Symbolism
  • Oedipus disrespects Teiresias, an all seeing prophet, and his prophecy skills because he states that Oedipus is the one who commited the crime. Oedipus is too prideful to believe the man and tells him that he will suffer and he has no skills whatsoever. In fact, he then blames Teiresias for the murder himself.
  • The man who killed Laius is YOU Oediupus!
  • When Oedipus states that he is a stranger to the story and the crime and that is dramatic irony because we as an audience know that the story is about Oedipus and he is actually the main character, and he is the one who killed Laius.
  • Wait... he is the one who killed Laius.
  • When Oedipus stabs his eyes out after finding out that the oracle has come true, it symbolizes him being blind to the truth throughout the story.
