- Some people in Africa did come with a price, but others were free. The traders are from north Africa and southeast Asia.
- Some people are convicted of crime and sold as slaves.
- Most slaves were bought from the larger family part of the village.
- Some of us were still good workers. We descendants are considered free.
- We may have less rights, but we can own a farm.
- We, Europeans, changed life in west Africa. We traded goods and guns to them.
- Slaves were our cheapest way to get work done.
- We now become more powerful than our neighbors. We now can protect ourselves.
- Protection keeps raiders away, like this person.
