- We want older adults who might be experiencing isolation and loneliness to engage with the local community theatre
- We had lots of ideas about how to move forward with our goal, but when we consulted with local people we learned that a major barrier for older people in attending the community theatre was lack of reliable public transport, especially in the evenings.
- We chose to focus on using the existing resources in the community to address our goal - the free newspaper and the Community Transport service that is already running in the town. This is delivered to all homes in the town and we learned that many people read the paper cover to cover.
- This is the sort of notice that could go in the local free newspaper. We will need to explore who will pay for this though.
- Feedback and further discussion confirmed that older adults would find it easiest to make their booking over the phone.
- We did some iterating specifically around the step of making the booking. We explored our assumptions about how booking might be made and identified further questions: would there be enough drivers available? Could the box office staff book a driver when the older person called in for a ticket?
- In further iteration sessions we realised that we needed to think about the relationship between the Community Transport drivers and the older person. Could we find ways to foster new relationships
- We realised that we would need to make sure that the shows playing at the theatre would be attractive to older people - and thought that a survey of existing audiences would be a good start. We also decided to offer a free ticket to the driver!
- Further iterations looked at how we could foster relationships between older adults and drivers - we could offer refreshments and social events after the theatre.
