- One afternoon, Johnny showed up to track practice ready to run, just to find out his coach had replaced him with a new freshman who had been beating him at all the previous practices. Johnny is very heartbroken over being kicked off his spot on varsity.
- "Johnny, we've seen how Preston has been beating your times during all of our practice races, so we have decided to give him the spot on varsity."
