  • Slide: 1
  • Why does it have to be so cold! My particles aren't even moving.
  • The ice is currently in the form of a solid so its particles are really close together and are not moving. Ice is just water at a freezing point of 32 degrees Faren Hight, so cold that the water turns from a liquid to a solid. The density is it's mass divided by it's volume.

  • Where did my owner go? I'm supposed to be in the stomach by now. Hey my particles are moving!
  • The ice cube has been left outside overnight and has melted, due to its melting point of 32 degrees Faren Height, changing it's state of matter from a solid to a liquid. The particles of a liquid definitely move faster than a solid but not too fast. The density of water is 1 gram per milliliter.

  • WOAH! I'm free! My particles are moving so fast!
  • After the glass of water was left out over night the water level of the cup decreased because some of it evaporated. A liquid will evaporate at any temperature above freezing so the liquid turns into a gas. Gas particles move really fast, faster than the particles of a liquid or solid. The density of gas is the mass per unit volume.
