In June 1828 Catherine moved into the House of Mercy. She was happy that her dream became a reality but felt sad and extremely lonely by the loss of her friends Fr. Armstrong and Fr. Nugent. Although she was sad, she was still happy to invite all of the uneducated girls to the House of Mercy.

The same year before her trusted adviser, Fr. Armstrong, died he told her words that will linger in her heart forever. He told her, “Do not put your trust in any human being, but put all your confidence in God.” This really touched Catherine because she always admired what Fr. Armstrong said.
William her brother-in-law was seriously ill and died rather quickly. Catherine took on the responsibility of his 2 children and decided to send them to boarding school in Carlow. The youngest boy Willie objected that he didn’t want to go without his 2 goats but Catherine told him that boarding school was not a place for goats.
