- Between 7:30 and 8:30 every morning except Sundays, the delivery boy does the rounds of Chipping Cleghorn village on his bicycle, handing over the newspaper. This morning an exceptionally and alarming announcement appeared in the Gazette.
- Meanwhile at the Swettenham's home, Edmund wished good morning to his mom and to the housekeeper Mrs. Fitch, whilst they looked at the morning news.
- Good Morning Mom, Good Morning Mrs. Fitch !!
- It says " Friends please accept this, the only intimation
- Edmund!! Edmund!! listen to this: A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks, at 6:30 pm
