Dawn Rochelle was 13 when the doctors told her she had cancer.
She was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia – One of the most common forms of cancer among kids.
Her roommate in the hospital is named Sandy Chandler, who is the exact same age, and had been recently diagnosed with the same cancer.
Dawn and Sandy both decide to go to Cancer Camp over the summer.
Shortly after camp, Dawn hears Sandy has got her cancer back. She is filled with dismay and sympathy. Sandy dies!
Dawn recieves a chest full of Sandy's belongings. The chest helps Dawn remember all the memories with her friend, and she will cherish them forever.
