- OCTOBER 10: Four armed men arrived at the home of the Quebec Labour Minister, Pierre Laporte and kidnapped him
- Important government officials were protected by armed guards and relocated.
- OCTOBER 12: Federal troops set up in Ottawa to protect the government officials and buildings from attacks.
- The Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau enacted the War Measures Act after the request of the Quebec Government. This act gave the Canadian government broad powers to maintain order during chaotic times.

- OCTOBER 18: Pierre Laporte's body was found in the trunk of a car in St. Hubert.
