- 1501 - Henry’s oldest son Arthur married the Spanish princess Cathrine of Argon. However Arthur died shortly after the marriage breaking the alliance with Spain.
- 1503 - Elizabeth of York died shortly after childbirth, leaving Henry politically and personally devastated. Robbing Henry of Yorkist support
- Due to the death of Arthur Henry had to reevaluate his relationship with Spain through a marriage between his only remaining son Henry XVIII and Cathrine of Aragon (Arthur’s widow).
