However, over the next four weeks, my perspective shifted dramatically. At our pizza party with the project teacher, it was a revelation to be able to converse casually with someone I had previously viewed as an authority figure. She shared that she had not initially wanted to study engineering; she loved singing and had once led a band.

“My parents wanted me to study engineering. When I tried it, I discovered that I enjoyed being an engineer, and had a talent for it. So don’t hesitate to explore new paths. My life is fulfilling now, and I still sing.”

In our relentlesspursuit of meaning and purpose, we tend to believe that achieving future goalswill lead to happiness, yet joy is often found in our current experiences.Now, whenever thatsmall fish inside me asks me for directions, I respond, “Stop searching, little fish. All you have to do is see.”
Her words resonated with me long after that evening. She, too, had navigated her own sea of choices, and found fulfillment by embracing new experiences. Her story showed me that passion is not confined to singular pursuits; it thrives in the small, meaningful moments we experience. For the first time, I felt truly confident and empowered. The passion I had been chasing was never about being better than the competition; it blossomed in the friendships and experiences Igathered along the way.
