  • Sherri Papinni pleaded guilty to two charges on mail fraud and making false statements. She was sentenced to 18 months of prison, 3 years following on surveillance and a 300,000 fine covering police investigation costs.

  • The prosecution's statement focused on the fact that Sherri was in fully mental sanity as she had carefully planned the hoax months prior to initiating the kidnapping. Additionally, her societal harm proved a concern as she rallied on a national level the look out for her disappearance. Her accusations caused fear and pain to the Hispanic communities as Sherri demonstrated racial hate towards Hispanics prior to the kidnapping as well as old blog posts.
  • The defense focused on small guilty charges in order to avoid max x sentences that could have landed her 20 years of jail time. William Portanova, Sherri's attorney blamed her actions on past trauma and mental illnesses that could have obscured her ability to think sanely. Finally, the defense claimed that Sherri's acceptance of responsibility in addition to her mental illness should grant her a sentencing of one month of jail and seven months of house arrest.

  • The aftermath of Sherri Papini's case consists of Papini fighting for joint custody of her son and daughter. Immediately after her release she was placed halfway home as she was no longer accepted into her home of Keith and their two children. Keith claimed in recent documentaries that Papini forced her children to huff cleaning supplies in order to keep them home from school and under her surveillance.
