- The man in the red sweater beats Buck with a club until he is obedient.
- Stop it!
- Buck and Spitz get into a fight over who is going to be the leader. Buck wins, killing Spitz.
- Hal, Charles, and Mercedes not knowing anything about dogs almost kill the team through starvation and overworking them.
- Jonh Thornton stops Hal from beating Buck.
- Buck finds John Thornton dead.
