  • Orignally, Harold Godwinson estimated that William Duke of Normandy was going to invade but he was wrong. Harald Hardrada attacked from the the North of England coming from Norway. There 300 boats and 10,000 men in Harald Hardrada's army.
  • The Stamford Bridge
  • Harold Godwinson marched 180 miles in 4 days just to reach the battle site. He traveled with housecarls who are proffesional warriors and picked up fyred along the way.Fyred are normal men who are there for numbers. This added up to 7000 to 15000 men. One of the main reasons this was so important was because Hardrada had already taken over York.
  • The Hard Ruler's Death
  • Harald Hardrada's army made big mistakes. Since Harold Godwinson decided to take a short break to rest up. This made Hardrada believe he stole the victory. In order of that they left their armour on their ships and the army was scattered. First of all, without their armour they weren't well protected. They were prone to worse injuries. Also as a whole armies are stronger but as for this one it was scattered.

  • To get to the brave Norwegian's army Harold Godwinson's army had to cross a bridge. This task wasn't easy as a corageous Norwegian Axeman guarded the bridge with roaring flames in his eyes. He took out many English men. The tables turned when an english man gutted the axeman from underneath the bridge.Once they passed the bridge the battle begun. The heavy hearted vikings tried to form a sheild wall but nothing could stop the English men.
  • Harald Hardrada ( the hard ruler) died due to an arrow piercing through his muscualr throat. This was a great loss for Hardrada's army. It resulted in loss of inspiration and guidance. The soldiers felt lost. Hardrada lost, his army did, the brave Norwegian soldiers did.Harold Godwinson spared Hardrad's son under the terms that Norway would never invade England again. They reached an agreement, yet only 24 of the 300 ships were needed to travel back.
  • Harold Godwinson and his passionate army began to celebrate in the town of York. Suddenly, Willam duke of Normandy excuted an attack in the south of England. Godwinson and his soldiers were in the North. That was a problem. They cut their celebrations short and raced to down to begin a new battle. Which led to the Battle of Hastings...
