- In the book, the kids on Alcatraz took a ferry off the island to go to school. The kindergarteners went to a house on Alcatraz island where someone taught them.
- Al Capone and the other convicts played baseball in the Rec Yard. On page 56, according to Annie, when a baseball went over the wall, the kids on Alcatraz got to keep it, and show it off at school.
- In the book, the wives of the guards on Alcatraz examined the mail that gets sent to the convicts. They chose if the criminals got to read the letter or not.
- According to the author's notes, children living on Alcatraz did in fact take a ferry to school. It is also a true fact that the kindergarteners were taught by one of the mothers on Alcatraz.
- In the author's notes, it says that convicts actually played baseball on Alcatraz and that children collected and treasured convict baseballs.
- According to the author's notes, the wives of the guards actually censored the mail that criminals got. Nothing that the convicts got was private.
