- His consciousness was being formed and trained as mandated by the Health Authority of the North American Perimeter – with his brain permanently connected to the Consciousness Enhancement Device (CED)
- Manufactured by the Infinitive Corporation, it provided the same – consistent and regulated- information and entertainment 24/7. The unit also served as a surveillance device, to be worn at all times, by all citizens.
- The electronic gadget was mandatory for all citizens born after the year 2000, and designed to unify human consciousness around the planet through the Internet.
- Noan has become numb and distant. I feel like we are losing him.
- Having grown up before the age of the CED, Noan's parents were concerned.
