  • During my time in the IWU teaching program, I was able to teach multiple small group lessons and take part in a large group instruction. This is my account of how I think it went!
  • Teacher
  • I spent a lot of time going over ways I could make an inclusive lesson plan that met the requirements of the course. I also wanted to make sure it was planned well enough so I didn't confuse students. It took a few tries...
  • Hmm....
  • The students all collectively enjoyed the lesson, but their favorite part was when we did the vocabulary from the book. They got to bring their own examples from family traditions and really immersed themselves in the experience.
  • My students were going to learn about themes and the messages they give to us in our stories. We focused on specific objectives to help us stay on track
  • 4.RL.2.2 - Paraphrase or summarize the main events ina story, myth, legend, or novel; identify the theme and provide evidence forthe interpretation.

  • We read a fiction story based around real events of Pocahontas and Lewis and Clark.

  • Students needed to work through a flow chart where they were given the theme and had to find supporting details
  • Theme: the message, the moral, or the lesson described in the story.
