on isis, a planet almost untouched by humanity, lives owlen pendennis, the 16 year old keeper of the isis light, witch helps to navigate starships, after the death of her parents. she has not seen another human ecsept for her parents and her guardian , who she calls guardian. she also has a pet dog like animal called hobbit
climax
a shipment of colonists from earth arrive from from earth including the 17 year old mark london. owlen does not want them to come. however guardian makes her meet them in a germ proof suit. there she meets mark and finds he is not bad.
falling action
owlen and mark start hanging out together. mark wonders how olwen can survive on the tops of mountians without a uv suit and oxygen mask.
resolution
mark falls of a cliff and almost dies after being surprised by olwens green skin. she has green skin because guardian geneticly modified her to give her free rein of isis.
one of the colonists shoots hobbit, ten is yelled at by olwen. later, a young colonist named jody gets lost during a dangerous solar storm, but olwen saves him. 
olwen and her guardian, who is revealed to be a robot called da-cop 43, move to an uninhabited valley to get away from the settelers.
