The wood frog has an rare ability- it can produce antifreeze. This allows them to survive at temperatures as low as 3 degrees Ferlinghetti. Winter is coming and the wood frog prepares for the big freeze. To do so the frog starts to store huge amounts of urine in it's blood.
From the stimulus the frog reacts to the cold and starts the process of his hibernation.

Winter is coming and the wood frog prepares for the big freeze. To do so the frog starts to store huge amounts of urine in it's blood. Once the frog starts to freeze over, the water in the frogs blood starts to freeze, and is sucked out of the frog cells. To prevent dehydration, the liver makes large amounts of glucose, and mixes with the urine in the blood to create its homemade antifreeze.

Over the span of the winter the cell in his body stay alive from his homemade antifreeze. This anti freeze halts his lungs, and heart from working and a long with other system that are helping it survive for months. With an increase in temperature the wood frog begins to thaw, and water enters back into their cells.
Within 30 minutes the frog comes back to life and after two days it heads out to look for food and a mate for reproduction
