- A large woman with a large purse was walking in the night at around eleven o'clock, when a boy ran up to her and stole her purse.
- After that, the boy attempted to escape but instead broke the long strap of the purse leaving the purse itself beside the woman that kicked him right square in his blue-jeaned sitter.
- After that painful kick,she picked him up and confronted him asking angrily if he isn't ashamed of himself which he responded to by an apology, but no matter what the boy said she wouldn't turn him loose because he told that if she did so he will run away.
- The woman decided to take the seemingly 14 year old boy to her house to wash his dirty face and to teach him the right from the wrong.She also realized that the boy was hungry so she asked him about wether he was hungry or not but he refused to answer and asked to be released but in vain. 
- when they arrived to Mrs.Luella bates Washington Jones's house, she let the frightened boy inside and ordered him to wash his face using the water from the sink and finally let him loose. The boy named Roger thought about escaping from the woman's house at first but then agreed to wash his face.After he was done, he asked the woman if she was planning to take him to jail, she denied that and started talking about how much of a mistake he did.
- The woman then offered the boy some food which he wanted to buy from the store but then agreed to eat the woman's cooking. After they finished eating the woman talked with the boy about his mistake and that everybody makes mistakes and not just him, and everybody has their own mistake that they keep a secret from everyone. Finally, she gave the boy ten dollars and bid him goodbye. The boy wanted to thank the woman but didn't know how to and only said thank you.
