Atticus was questioning Mr. Tate about the rape case. He mainly asked why he didn't call the doctor and where she was bruised.
Ewell called me saying that her girl was raped. Her left eye was black. Actually it was her right. She was might beat up. 
Atticus asked Bob Ewell about the events regarding the rape case.
What happened on November 21st?
I was getting kindling from the woods when I heard my Mayella scream. When I went to the window, I saw Tom.

Atticus asks Bob Ewell to write his name to check weather he is right of left handed. Atticus thinks the person who hit Mayella was left handed.
What does that got to do with anything?
Mayella is telling her side of the story. He says that Tom raped her.

Mayella starts to get frazzled and keeps changing the story.
