Adonis is a human mortal, born from an incestuous relationship between his mother and grandfather, His mother was turned into a tree by Aphrodite while being chased by her father, and once split Adonis was born.
Climax
Aphrodite loved the child and neglected her duties as god so she was forced to give him up the Persephone where he would hide away from other mortals. Both women end up falling in love with the man but he chooses to stay in the mortal realm away from Persephone.
Falling Action
Adonis enjoys hunting which leads Aphrodite to warn him that he is not to kill any animal which does not run away from him as they may be stronger than they appear.
Resolution
 
He stumbles upon a boar which is not scared by anything Adonis did. Once angered the boar turns to him and pierces his body with its tusk. It was not just a regular boar but actually Ares, Aphrodite's husband, jealous of how she felt toward Adonis.
Adonis soon went to the underworld where Persephone was very happy to see him again, but Aphrodite refused to allow this and went to the underworld herself to try and bring Adonis back. One woman wants him to stay dead while the other wants him to be revived.
Zeus did not want to see the two women arguing over the man and made Aphrodite and Persephone agree that for 6 months of the year he is in the mortal realm with Aphrodite and for the other 6 months he is in the underworld with Persephone.
