They obviously did not turn into Gods. When God found out, instead they were cursed and their relationship got worse. He made their lives harder.
The serpent ( the devil) manipulates Eve trying to make her eat the fruit from the tree. The serpent tricks her because he wants to create a bad relationship between God, Eve and Adam. E.G. “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
God said to Eve " I will make your pains in child birth severe with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband as he will rule over you." He then said to Adam " Cursed is the ground because of you through pain toil. You will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistle for you. You will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat the food until you return from the ground.
God tell Adam and Eve that they must NOT eat from the tree in the middle of the garden.
