  • After killing Captain Beatty and the Hound, Montag grabs a few remaining books from his yard and runs towards Faber's house. • Montag finally reaches Faber's house, and they talk about what to do now that there is major news coverage of Montag as a wanted criminal. Montag tells Faber to was hout his smell from his home, and Faber tells Montag to take some dirty clothes with him to the river. They also form a plan to regroup in St. Louis after it all blows over.
  • Montag jumps into the river, changing his clothes into Faber's to reduce his smell from the new Mechanical Hound. He is carried by the river until he reaches a wooded area and sees a fire surrounded by a few men. They welcome Montag into their camp and explain that they are people who've memorized books and hope to bring them back.
  • Montag walks along the river and talks with the men, when suddenly fighter jets streak across the sky. Bombs strike the unnamed city of the novel, eventually leaving it as a pile of rubble. The men brace for the impacts and aftershocks, and when they conclude, they walk towards the city to help the survivors rebuild.
